Those are all things that people do in their spare time. They are things that some people are passionate about and many of them are things that are creative in nature. As humans, we have an intense need and desire to be passionate about something and often times we feel that we aren’t creative enough. We need an outlet for creative expression. I believe that passion and creativity are vital to living a more well rounded life and for living happily. We all want to feel like we are contributing to our own happiness and we want to feel like we aren’t missing out on all of the fun that we could be having. FOMO is a biotch. But if we find things that we can do that are creative or things that we are passionate about doing in our spare time, we don’t feel like we’ve missed out on as much.
For me, I am passionate about helping others. I volunteer whenever the opportunity arises. I spend a great deal of my free time at home writing blog posts or working on a self-help book that I am currently writing because I feel like these things add value and help others. I am also passionate about traveling and being outdoors. I love to camp, hike, kayak, and bike and I try to do these things as often as possible. It is enriching to take part in an activity that you are truly passionate about and it gives you a feeling unlike anything else.
I encourage you to do some thinking and some soul searching and try to find whatever it is that you are passionate about. You might love to paint or scrapbook or put model cars together. Whatever it is that brings you that feeling of enrichment, do it. Make it a priority. Schedule time to make it happen. And if you can make someone’s life better in the process, then that’s an incredible bonus! Whatever you do has to be true to you. You have to really enjoy it and not just be going along or pretending to be interested in it for someone else. And don’t be ashamed of what you are passionate about. It may be ‘weird’ or different, but that’s okay. It is yours and yours alone to love and enjoy. You can try to incorporate your family or friends in whatever it is that you are passionate about, but at the end of the day, they will each have their own interests and passions and that is okay. Sometimes clarity comes from participating in an activity that you truly love right by yourself.
On a separate but equally important note, I think finding a career that you are passionate about is just as important as finding activities that you are passionate about to do in your spare time. This can be a little bit harder but is well worth the effort. I encourage everyone to take a survey online like this one, to find out what you are passionate about! Then you can begin to explore the types of careers associated with your passion!
So what are you passionate about? Drop me a line and let me know! I’d love to hear what everyone does in their spare time.
